Cozy Cozy

Welcome 2015!

The new year has rushed in with a move back to the San Francisco Bay Area for my husband and I!  That's where we're originally from, but we've lived in northern California for the past 5 years.  Packing boxes today reminded me of how we have too much stuff and how the boxes are way too tiny...

I've been obsessed with this Everlane cardigan my honey gave me for Christmas, it is the softest wool  and the perfect slouchy fit.  I picked up these J Brand leather pants on eBay for a steal and they are seriously the comfiest pants ever, not to mention they go with everything!!  All I had to do was sophisticate myself with a statement necklace, pumps and a leopard clutch and I was good to go.

So more about our move.  I'm going to get real with you...  I like to have all my ducks in a row.  I mean I really abhor loose ends, clutter and tasks left undone.  It gets under my skin and nags me constantly in the back of my head until it's resolved.  So tossing everything we own into boxes and being left with a disheveled house, bare walls, dust clouding the air and absolutely nothing in order is not my cup of tea.  With that being said, there are things I would like to do differently this time around than when my husband and I moved in together after our wedding.  Being extra aware that my anxiety levels heighten when there's clutter and the house doesn't look aesthetically pleasing is a good place to start.  Knowing that I need to be okay with absolutely nothing being in order is another great beginning place.  But I've realized that when Joey and I first moved in together, I made the house look the way I wanted it and stashed his extra things in closets and the garage.  Anything that looked like clutter and took away from my minimalist decor, really.  What I failed to realize was that this didn't help our connection at all.  I couldn't comprehend how he didn't see my master plan of keeping things simple, neat and tastefully decorated and hiding all that didn't vibe with this brilliant blueprint!  In the meantime I made him feel like his things were unimportant and worth nothing to me.  Thus making him feel like he wasn't important in our house.  So this time around I want to do things differently.  I want to prioritize our connection and make him feel loved above our house looking the way I want it.  I'm not sure how to do this exactly, but I know that if I put our relationship first that the rest will fall into place.  I may have done a terrible job of this before but I really want to learn a new way of meeting in the middle and keeping our connection strong the whole way through. After all, we are completely different people who see the world through alternate perspectives, with our own giftings, skills, and environmental conditioning, how could we possibly agree on everything and see life exactly the same way?  Connection and intimacy are the life-sustaining threads holding us together, I don't want to ever lose sight of that.

Thanks for reading, I'll keep you posted on any new developments!

xx

  1. Seriously the hardest part of moving in with a man (or anyone) is incorporating their stuff into your vision of a home! Have a great time back in SF, I am super jealous!
